Los Laureles, the garbage dump community of La Ceiba consist of some of the most poverty stricken families in Honduras. This community consist of families who basically squat around the outskirts of the local dump because the land there has no value. This community is a very filthy and unsanitary place to live but the people here do what they can to get by. Many of the children are not in school because their families cannot afford the basic neccesities for their children to attend school. One visit here and you’ll find children and parents alike scouring through garbage, searching for tin, plastic and anything else of value. Los Laureles has been a location of gang recruting who target the youth who have little to no promise of a bright future. There are a lot of hunger issues. The children don’t eat like they should.  We feed the children nutritious meals that consist of rice, chicken and milk. For some of these malnourished children, our meals are the only good food they receive all week.
